Your Goals Must Be Specific
I had read something the other day where someone was setting a goal to go from 5 figures to 6 figures. He mentioned what a big gap that could be. People often make vague goals like that without realizing the difference between saying, "I earn $10,000 a year" and "I earn $99,999 a year" - and both are five figures, technically.Going from $10k to $100k is going to require a much bigger effort than going from $90k to $100k.
Goals like "I want to automate my business" are too vague. Automate it to what degree? How many hours will you shave off your workload?
Numbers matter. Saying, "I want to lose a lot of weight" might mean 30 pounds or it might mean 300.
"Making money online" might mean $5 or $500,000.
I have some goals coming up. The whole reason I'm going to Vegas is to finally get super serious about my fiction writing branch. Before, I had a goal to "write fiction" and make money from it.
I did, too. Made $10 some months and enough to pay my mortgage other months. But neither of those work for me. My first goal is to consistently publish one book every 60 days. I plan to write 2,500 words three times a week. That should take me a little over 6 and a quarter weeks to finish it, then I'll send it to an editor. One week is for brainstorming.
My second goal will be income. Once I know my writing in a genre is working (hoping it's thriller so I don't have to write clean romance anymore), I will aim to increase my income by at least $4,000 a month every month - $1k a week but as I increase my earnings, I'll bump that and increase more and more.
I have to calculate goals for the hours to put into this business branch, publishing schedules, money goals, and then I'll have stuff like goals for growing my ARC team, and so on.
Take today to think about your goals. Get concrete with them. No more of this vague stuff.
