Challenge Yourself - Free PLR Special; What I Learned About Doing Things Your Way

Published: Sun, 11/20/22

We got back Friday night and I have so much to share over the coming week or two! To sum it up briefly - Vegas is both glamorous and scary. We learned a LOT (to apply to ALL business branches online), had a lot of fun, and yet were SO ready to go home by the time day five rolled around.

One thing I did was buy a $100 chip before I left as a reminder to "bet on myself." I'd seen the idea from another author and I decided to do it - in more than 1 way. Once I hit $100,000 in fiction earnings per year, I will return and trade up for a $1,000 chip for when I hit seven figures. Those are my goals at least.

I'll be doing some in depth blog post series on what we experienced, learned, and did - or plan to do next time. I have to recover and find my groove and then I'll be sending out the links to those posts for you.

But find a way to "bet on yourself" too. Even if it's not a chip.

FYI: Tomorrow's email goes out at 9 AM EST and if you need to see what limited PLR is left and see what big, discounted store bundles are available, go here.

What I Learned About Doing Things Your Way

This past week I was in Las Vegas at a self publishing event. Most of the people there were writing fiction (which is what I want to increase in my business as a business branch) but there were also some non fiction authors.

The fiction industry parallels a lot of the Internet marketing industry - we create covers, build lists of subscribers, nurture an audience, use social media, WRITE, and more. We struggle with creativity and productivity, imposter syndrome, a lack of confidence, negative (and positive) feedback, etc.

So this was a great conference to attend for all of my business branches. There were literally seniors wanting to make "$50 a month more to pay for their medications" and people striving to earn lifestyle-changing six and seven figure incomes.

I went to 13 presentations total and one thing that kept repeating itself was a pattern of seeing people "do things their own way."

Whether it was intense marketing or light marketing, plotting or pantsing their books, networking or not, email marketing multiple times per day or never, DIY or outsourcing - I saw so many ranges of styles.

This is how it is in the IM world, too. Many newbies will hear one person say something and take it as the gospel. You have to find YOUR way.

I saw authors say that more complex stories performed better and some who said they performed worse.

There are a lot of teachers who mistakenly believe their way is the only way, too. Don't listen to them. I saw several people emphasize that you had ot have the passion and dream of writing since age 5 - not true! I know people who don't even read fiction making tons of money writing it. It didn't dawn on them until later that they could write and earn from it.

One thing I LOVED is something I say to y'all - weed out your NON audience. The high powered authors have no problem "driving people away who don't like you." In fact, they said when someone complains, they double down on repelling them. LOL! I giggled because that's the way to do business!

You'll have whiners and complainers. Now if you did something wrong, of course - fix it - but so many people will want YOU to change rather than them just going to find someone who better suits their needs. Let them GO - push them if you have to.

When it came to styles of working, it's similar to the IM world. Some had a process of 80% creativity and 20% admin. Others were strict - 4 hours of admin, 4 hours of writing, then 4 hours of self care. Some worked whenever they could steal a moment. Some wrote their products M-Th and left Fri for admin, with a minimum word count each day they had to hit.

Do. It. Your. Way.

...and never apologize for it.

Tiff :)
