Published: Wed, 09/13/23
My kids and I have been getting out the Christmas decorations already. LOL! I skip fall completely and go straight to the beautiful decor - the reds and greens. Makes it so copy in here. They think I'm insane but I'm the only one in the living room working most of the time, so I never care unless I have to have a service person out here and then I just apologize for being nutty. :)
Okay BIG warnings on AI use below. PLEASE take time to read this. It's going to affect EVERYone using AI, NOT only Amazon users as people initially thought.

I Predict a Smackdown on AI Content
All of these people using AI all willy nilly on their website are going to eventually be in for a disappointment I think.Amazon clamping down was just the first sign. Senator Pete Ricketts has introduced a bill to regulate the use of artificial intelligence. Don't make the mistake of seeing the word watermark and thinking it only applies to images because it's ALL AI-generated content. The bill will require you to declare that your content (text, images and video or audio) is AI-generated. It's also asking for federal guidelines over advertising.
If you're using AI-generated content for profit, there are more regulations on the horizon by federal agencies. You'll have a limited number of time to fix it before getting in trouble with the FTC. They're saying it's to prevent "unfair or deceptive" practices. Which means AI content is being frowned upon.
But let's dig into this further...
The bill isn't the only thing happening. You also have lawsuits popping up where a creator discovers their content has been scraped by AI and is being used to generate content for their users. Amazon clamped down - demanding intricate details of exactly how you've used AI when creating content for their site.
I heard someone mention one lady was being all ethical and took the proper steps to declare her content was partially AI-generated and as soon as she clicked submit, her account was shut down.
You know what the problem is, right? I predicted this months ago when AI hit the scene and I warned everyone this was going to happen. People are mostly sloppy and lazy. So while you may have used AI appropriately, starting with some good information on your own, redirecting it to get something unique, etc., most won't. The result has been a FLOOD of sub-par books, products and blogs online.
There HAS to be corrective measures taken or these bad apples sink the entire ship. Those measures will be declarations. And the second you start having to declare "this book" or "this blog" is AI-generated, poof! There goes your credibility as a niche leader. They won't consider you valuable anymore. You know how you as a consumer hate encountering sterile content - and that's what others feel, too.
Consumers are feeling the ick from this. You can even tell when something is AI generated in most cases. (Although I had to laugh when someone said if they read the word delve or opt in a piece, they know it's AI - because I use those words lol).
Forbes did a piece saying that 86% of people prefer humans to AI. Other articles are popping up about how Google's generative search (its AI version) gives ridiculous and horrifying answers. This is what people will think of when they hear "AI." It's also plagiarizing content from news sites, causing lawsuits.
Sites currently ranking with AI content *I think* will eventually get that stripped away from them.
People jump on stuff so freaking fast, don't bother to learn and mess everything up. It's a great tool for brainstorming, asking questions and even filling in gaps for outlining. Writing with it takes a lot of dedication and work. 99.99999% of people would never do that.
I don't mind developing cheap AI content for people who want to use it in various ways (since I do it very carefully and you may be using it as a resource only) but be forewarned - AI initially blasted onto the scene and everyone salivated (especially scammy people trying to hurriedly game the system). So now the backlash is gaining steam and you may find yourself in a pickle or having to redo tons of work for your site if you're not careful. Maybe even worse if you're profiting from it with the sale of an eBook, for example.
Just my $0.02. Take it or leave it.
Tiff ;)
