As many of you are, I'm on several peoples' lists in this industry. Sometimes, I'm a consumer, sometimes a competitor and other times a friend. I don't always read everyone's emails but one struck me as particularly eye-opening yesterday (well technically the day before on Thanksgiving). I talk about the lesson I learned from that below.
Before then, let me tell you about the new 52-week email series I worked with AI to create for strategic marketing slants...

Lessons Learned from a Friend and Colleague
While I'm on many lists, there are only a few where I read every word. Arun Chandran's list is one of those - partly because the emails are always funny, but also because he's very insightful as a human. On Thanksgiving, he sent out an email that resonated with me greatly - made me see the errors of my ways, so to speak.
It was all about how we tend to talk about everything we're thankful for on that day, but that's as far as we go.
Arun said that instead of just talking about it, we should show our gratitude for the blessings we have in life (health, loved ones, success etc.) but taking action.
This year, before reading his email I had gone through the list of what I was thankful for based on this past year - such as the fact that my health issues turned out okay, that I have my kids around me, that my business is still going strong, that I got confirmation from an editor that I should pursue fiction, etc.
Arun quoted this: "Gratitude is thankfulness expressed in action."
I haven't done that in several areas. His insight has helped me take action on some things today, and that felt way better than just spouting off words.
An example is my health - instead of continuing to do the wrong thing with my weight, I made sure to be mindful all day about what I ate and I worked out even when I felt tired. THAT is true thanks to this poor body that's been put through the ringer.
Arun also said that we should "get some alone time and spend 10 minutes thanking yourself - for getting you through all that you've been through." That almost made me cry. It's hard sometimes going through scary times and I don't like to unload on my kids. I'm divorced (thankfully) and I set boundaries with my mom so I don't talk to her. My sister lives in Missouri - so it's sometimes just me sitting there wondering how I'll get through something.
So I did take those 10 minutes and thank myself. I think it's something we don't do enough.
You should do the same. Resiliency and strength is often something that we don't realize we have until way later.
If you're not on his list yet I highly suggest getting on it for these nuggets of insight and his PLR. He's a genuinely wonderful person and I'm grateful for his friendship and the laughter he provides. I don't trust many marketers, but I trust him.
Hope y'all have a great night,
Tiff ;)
