Bad Marketing Example (or not?), Niche tutorial Tiff's Tips
Published: Wed, 11/30/16
I just got home from picking my baby girl up. She wasn't feeling well at school. I had to stop by Barnes and Noble on the way home to pick a couple of things up and on our way out of the store, a man was holding the door for us, so I told my daughter, "Say thank you." The guy looked at me and said, "Thank you!" LOL! He thought I was scolding him or something.
So I'm home now caretaking and waiting for round trip (hour #3) in the car at 3:45 when my son gets out of school. I had to get my journals and planners that I usually like to start on December 1st. I don't start them in January, because I like to see how a year ends and then evolves in the next year. I also grabbed 3 entrepreneurial magazines to pick up some motivation, ideas, etc.
Today I have a blog post (would love your $0.02 on this) and a tutorial for two niche topics below.
Blog post first:
I was watching TV and saw a commercial that irked me as a marketer. Here's why:

Would love to know how you saw it, and if there's another one that's made you want to redo their marketing for them.
Now the Tutorial:
Okay so many times when I'm coaching people on business strategy, it becomes apparent that they're REALLY confused about organizing or going forward with a topic. They can PICK a topic they might like, but then they stare at their WP installation in horror, feeling overwhelmed.
So I wanted to take the two niche topics I promoted this week for PLR and tell you how I'd organize the launch of a site in those.
Protein first. So my launch about protein is here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/bigplrevent.com/indexproteinpower.html
If you bought that, then you may already have a fitness and health domain, or maybe you want to set one up. You could get a domain like ProteinDietingTips.com (it's available) and set up an entire site dedicated to the topic. Things you could do on the site:
- Have reviews on the site. Review everything from protein bars to powders (you can get free or cheap scoops or packets at nutrition stores), the shakers and readymade shakes. Remember you can promote via Amazon OR Walmart or Target through Commission Junction and Share a Sale.
- Teach your readers tips about protein usage. My son gets annoyed when people order 4 scoops of protein because your body can only use part of it and the rest is a waste of money. Teach them about making sure the whey gets mixed and isn't clumpy, about making things taste better, etc. Teach them about where to get natural protein like meat, and how to prepare it. This would make great videos on YouTube.
- Dig in depth into the proteins. Did you know there's a wide variety of choices? You can find sodium-free, fat free, sugar free, etc. You can also go through the different formats it's sold in - capsules, powder, liquids, tablets, etc.
- Compare brands. You have a bunch of different brands with different focuses. For example, Optimum Nutrition is a sports company while Orgain is all about vegan and organic protein.
- Cover everything from a quick snack to gourmet stuff like a 4-pound box of high protein pancake and waffle mix that sells for over $20.
- Talk about the polar opposite - carbs. The people concerned with getting enough protein may also be concerned with avoiding carbs. Not all of them, mind you - some will use a combination of carbs for energy and protein for fueling and filling up as well as muscle recovery.
- Go to fitness events and take a backpack. Vendors are always giving away freebies at the events. My son went to one this summer and came home overloaded with free protein and workout stuff.
- Branch out when the time is right. Your site can focus on protein, but you can also cover exercise equipment, fitness clothing, and diet and health products and topics, too. Just make the main focus protein, or always tie a topic back into the protein one to show relevancy.
- Join forums dedicated to fitness and dieting and give helpful answers. Don't spam. Just help. It's best if you're allowed a hyperlinked signature file in your profile for posts, too.
Now let's talk about the other niche I promoted for Susan O Dea - Anti Aging, here: http://jvz9.com/c/5810/241739
You can either choose to do a head to toe, inside and out site that's comprehensive in terms of covering mental and physical well-being. Or, you can focus on things, such as skincare, mobility, disease prevention, etc.
As with the protein niche, you can have a main focus and sometimes bring in other topics from time to time. Try to tie them in. For example, if you have a skincare site, you can also bring in nutrition, where you're talking about nourishing your skin from the inside-out.
Even if you went with skincare, you could divide your topics up. Do topics about sensitive skin, dry skin, eye wrinkles, organic products, unscented, cruelty-free, and more.
Cover a variety of brands. I LOVE seeing those pictures that compare shots. So maybe a before pic of your face or hands, then left side one brand, right side, one brand. Don't be afraid to write a handwritten letter (or typed) to the company asking if they have any samples you could try. Nine times out of ten, they'll send you a bunch of them! Just look up (brand name) corporation on Google and get the corporate address.
Don't assume everyone has your skin type. When you review things, it might be for dry skin. But others might have oily or combination skin.
Remember that products come in different forms. Like protein. The anti aging products might be cream, gel, foam, serum, lotion or spray.
Cost will play a big roles in the world of anti aging. You'll find everything from cheap under $10 products to those costing hundreds of dollars with gold speckle flakes in them. You might even position your entire site around price, such as PremiumAntiAging.com (available) where everything you promote is high end. Eventually, companies might send you free stuff to review.
Give tips, too - for everything - mindset (even mindset about wrinkles), internal health, skincare, mobility, socialization and more. Vary your topics and enjoy the process.
This is a niche I'm building a site for this coming year as I get more and more into anti aging out of necessity.
Okay I hope that helps!
Tiff ;)
