An Obstacle That Resulted in Determination and Hard Work (Freebie Too)
Published: Thu, 12/22/16
Every one of us online has a why in what we're pursuing. You might want a beach house or to travel. You might want to quit your job or look after a loved one.
For me, it's my babies. My kids are all incredible people - kindhearted and loving, helpful and appreciative. They're all honor students who help around the house and take care of one another, too.
The other day we were sitting down and going over finances. As many of you know, in order to safely escape my marriage, I took on 100% of the marital debt that was racked up. So while I earn what seemingly would be enough to pay for my son, Shawn's, college - right now, it's all going to the burden I was left with.
He has a dream to pursue marine biology when he graduates this year. You can't do that just anywhere - it has to be near the ocean, and his dream will cost $26,000 a year even at the less costly school in Texas. He has $6,100 saved - after giving up the idea of owning his own car (difficult for a 17-year old guy).
The look on his face when I mentioned that I didn't know if I'd be able to afford that was the worst a parent can imagine - the disappointment and sadness. I held his hand and said, "I'll do everything I can."
"I know you will, Mom," he said. He bravely smiled, but I could see the eyes getting moist and the chin quivering. He went into his room, and I sat...and cried - beating myself up for not doing everything right over the years.
About 30 minutes later he emerged with a whole new attitude. Fierce determination.
"What can I do to earn it?" He asked. He didn't post a Go Fund Me - he wanted to work for it.
Now Shawn is a top scholar at his college preparatory school - in all advanced classes. He can write really well. He's also an avid gamer. So I said, "Wanna launch a gaming PLR pack and I'll launch it for you and you keep 100% of the profits?"
"Yes!" he said, without hesitation. So during his Christmas break, while his friends were out having fun, he worked the whole time.
Here's a sample PLR freebie you can download where he reviews Grand Theft Auto V:

I went through and picked out 20 video games from the bestseller list and he wrote the reviews for them (in addition to the one above). I ALSO made this sale more exclusive - meaning it will only be on JVzoo, and NEVER be on my PLR Mini Mart or in my lifetime membership. The discount lasts for 1 week.
This is a great niche - especially AFTER Christmas, once everyone's opened their new gaming console gifts and gift certificates to spend online.
I contributed the one time offer portion of 35 additional new reviews and told him he could have the money from that, too. All of it.
I know it won't be enough to pay it all, but it might get us closer to his goal - and he might do more before tuition is due. We only have a short window.

I don't want you to buy this because there's any sort of pity for him. I want you to buy it because it's good content and has great profit potential - because he worked hard to ensure quality.

The lesson I want to impart is this... I see so many people with a harsh past who use it as an excuse not to achieve their goals. Shawn has survived a lot - including physically rescuing myself and his little sister from a violent situation. He didn't allow it to break him.
In fact, his confidence soared, his grades skyrocketed and he used the situation to better himself. How often do you wallow in what's happened to you?
I know I do it!
I look to my son for inspiration on how to pick myself up by the bootstraps and make progress. Because if we don't do that, we're doomed to a life of misery, aren't we?
This coming year, I won't be looking back. No more beating myself up. All I can do is do what's right for the future.
Tiff ;)
