We Got the Beat, Shame of Changing Your Mind, Easy Affiliate Commissions, & Coupon

Published: Sat, 12/31/16

Hi !

So what does your New year's Eve look like? (Or for y'all on the other side of the world, NY day? My boys are both out for the night, putting my worry into overdrive, but me and baby girl are going to pick up some takeout, watch a movie and have spa night at home after doing makeovers.

During the day today, I'm working (of course). I got a little behind this week w/my 4-day workweek because I had errands to run, so I'm spending a few hours making up for it.

-----> We Got the Beat - Do You?

For my fiction profit people, check this resource out (comes with PLR too) by Joanne Reid. I'm so excited I just printed my copy out and I'm using it to map out my ENTIRE series for my short stories. It's all about BEATS.

The beats are the tempo of how a fiction story should unfold. This is something I've never been good at, but when I opened Joanne's file I was SO relieved. She spells it out and has a "drop in" outline for you to work with. NOW I GET it.

She has it on sale for a few days at $10 here:

One thing I loved was how she teaches what kind of fast and relaxed content should go where. I'd never been good at that. I just kind of stuck ideas in there wherever I thought it might work. And I HATE to tell you this, but her OTOs were JUST as awesome.

The first one had a whole set of lessons in it on things like theme, plotting, dialogue and more. Another printable set of lessons for me. (It's $17 for the 10-part series). And the second one was a $10 report (I didn't watch the video) with more lessons about short story writing. Printing that, too.

Good grief - she's been holding out on us all this time! This is great stuff.

-----> Shame of Changing Your Mind

I want to share a heartfelt moment with you. But I instantly saw so many of YOU in my son, that I felt it needed to be shared. Recently, I put up a launch for my son's college fund and detailed how it would be for his dream of marine biology.

During the sale he looked kind of odd. A little hesitant. I mentioned how we still needed to continue applying for scholarships and he casually blurted out, "I might not even want to do that."

WHAT!?

I said, "Whoa...back up. What's going on? Have you been thinking about not pursuing marine biology?"

"Little bit," he said and I SWEAR I almost heard him choke up slightly. He had that look of shame.

I said, "Sit down. Let's talk."

Well, basically, when you're 17, you don't think of all scenarios when you think of a career. All you know is, "I'd love to be at the beach taking care of dolphins," right? So during our many talks, I had mentioned that we'd miss him because he'd be living on the coast from then on. Apparently, he'd forgotten that detail. LOL!

He was thinking he'd live here - he loves our hometown. But aside from fisheries and an Aquarium, the job options are scarce. Long story, short - I know he wants to work with biology and animals and healing things. I said, Have you ever thought about being a veterinarian?"

I tell you, his eyes lit up, he's been beaming ever since and he ordered two books about it and went and studied his college career path in detail and now he's hoping to attend Baylor and pursue that.

Shame - that's what it was all about. He thought (and LITERALLY SAID), "It's TOO LATE for me to change my mind." WHAT!? No it's not! I had to explain to him that it was perfectly FINE and NORMAL to change your mind. He's 17 for crying out loud. But in HIS mind, here I had told everyone about marine biology and he didn't want to disappoint me OR you.

Heart. Melt. He's so precious.

Listen, I see many of you feeling shame, too - not working fast enough, not earning fast enough, not being as good as someone else. Please stop it. Pretend you're your child and support yourself in mind changes. You have the RIGHT and the FREEDOM to pursue whatever makes you HAPPY.

Poor Shawn thought he was stupid for not having thought it through. Well he's SEVENTEEN! Nobody expects him to know all the ins and outs of his career and future at that age. And you probably shame yourself the same way - thinking you're stupid. I hear that word used to describe yourself more in emails than any other word. I cringe every time. Stop it. Remember Shawn next time you do that. ((hugs))
