It's Hard Not to Rush Things, Isn't It?
Published: Sat, 07/08/17
I'm like everyone else pursuing online marketing - I want a combination of career satisfaction and fast income. I don't know of anyone who doesn't want that pairing. But sometimes, when we rush things, we give up both of those perks.
Our intentions are good, but we get blinded by the false ideas in our heads that say quantity and speed matter most.
Much of that has to do with how things are sold to us, and what proof we see as well. Push button terminology and "look how much I raked in yesterday" wording gets us offtrack.
It happens to me, too. I have to keep myself grounded on a regular basis, reminding me of what actually works best in the long run.
Take blogging for example. Blogging is actually one of the most lucrative tasks you can do as a marketer, but most of us do it wrong. We don't spend enough time really writing a quality blog post. We get caught up in how many blog posts we can do, or how fast we can write 500 words for the blog. We don't have our head in the game about what would make someone land there, be WOW'd with the information, and make a purchasing decision or walk away feeling fulfilled with our link in their bookmarks.
Sometimes we have to force ourselves. I wanted to test out some new strategies on one of my toy sites, for example. I could have rushed it, but in order for me to really see what the potential will be for the site, I have to try my BEST. Because if I only try halfway, that's not a true account of what's possible.
This latest blog post I did after finding a keyword phrase for parents looking for emotional (or social) development toys. I combined and merged phrases and words they use, I personally picked out 10 categories of toys I wanted to use based on my own experiences as a Mom, I took time to think up helpful scenarios to share with my readers, and I took time to insert images and even made a helpful video so I'd have some multi media in there. More keyword research revealed a variety of tags I wanted to use. I shared it on social sites.
But this (since I have other business branches to do), took me three days. You can see it here:

I could have easily used Amazon to plug in whatever social skills toys they recommend, and write a quickie specs paragraph about each one. But does that really help the parent who lands there? No. It simply links them to Amazon to try to flounder and figure it out on their own.
I had to sit there and remind myself, "You know, someone typing that phrase into a search engine might really be concerned about their CHILD. Maybe they're sitting home at night worrying because the daycare provider or teacher has told them little Johnny isn't interacting properly."
What a horrible person I would be if my ONLY concern was to take her cash and not even care if she helped her child develop properly. So instead, I offered my $0.02 in a Mom to Mom (or Dad) explanation. I gave real life expertise. When I was finished today, I felt proud. I can imagine that worried Mom landing there, seeing my tip with dialogue about making your child feel proud for helping - and her implementing that and the kid getting praised and smiling and the mom feeling relief that she sees her child happy that day.
THAT means a lot to me.
I don't care what niche it is - I'm in many - but I always like to imagine the person who might be reading my blog post. Maybe it's my survival for women blog and she's read my blog post about being ready for home intruders - where I gave a chilling account of what happened to me, and she implements the mirror strategy and one day it helps her avoid an attack.
Always consider your reader whenever you write. Think of their emotions, not just their spending power. As you blog this week, try to see if you can go above and beyond in some way to really do your absolute best. If you're not, then you truly won't know the potential of your online efforts.
You wouldn't accept less than 100% from a paid employee, so don't let yourself get away with it, either.
Tiff ;)
