I never can sleep when one of my kids is out. Now that Shawn's grown and has a college life, that's going to mean lots of sleepless nights for me. It's just how I am. I was up until almost 2 AM last night waiting for him to finish his fraternity and sporting activities but I finally got about 4 hours of sleep and came home after carpool to sleep half my day away. #2 - Someone Competing with Your Idea
I had something happen this week that was not all too common, but it does happen periodically. Two subscribers came to me with ideas that nobody else is doing - the same idea. There are some minor differences, but the overall concept is the same. They wanted to run it by me and to both, I'll say, "Go for it." Among other things. But I almost hesitate to tell them that someone else is considering doing the same thing. Why? Because they'll both quit.
For some reason, many people throw up their hands and give up if ANYONE else is on the same path. I've been watching a lot of Survivor seasons lately that I misses before and I can't IMAGINE any of those competitors in a reward challenge or immunity challenge just saying, "Welp! Joe's over there figuring out the same puzzle, so I'm just gonna sit down for now."
But in business, it happens. You just assume the other person's product will be better and you give up.
I'll go ahead and tell these two wonderful women that someone else is considering their idea. But I really hope they see this message and understand that they should allow it to light a fire under their rears and compete to do it even better than they'd considered before.
#3 - Outsourcing Grief
This isn't about the kind of grief you have when someone or something wronged you. Does anyone else ever feel a weird amount of grief, even slight, when they have to hand over something to someone else?I'm feeling that today.
This past couple of days I fleshed out a prologue, 20 chapters and an epilogue for my new upcoming book. It was about 16 pages of notes and ideas and a teeny bit of dialogue for the book I'm going to outsource and it's almost like I'm sad about having to hand it over!
The story has already unfolded in my mind and now I have to say goodbye to it and let someone else have it.
If I didn't, I know I would just keep pushing it onto the backburner. At least this way, it'll see the light of day at some point. I almost feel like I have this child and I'm sending it off to boarding school to be educated and come back home to me. LOL!
Anyway, it's hard to outsource sometimes - whether it's just close to your heart or something you feel like you should be doing.
That's no excuse not to make the tough decision to let it be delegated if your time is better spent elsewhere.
We are business owners and the buck stops here and we have to decide what's best for our profits.
Sometimes that means handing something off and trusting that it's the right decision because you chose the best person for the job, as I know I did.
Okay I'm off to work! I have a new PLR launch tomorrow - 2017 Christmas Gift Guides! You're not going to want to miss this. It's for my son Shawn's college education and he wrote half of the content. It's superb.
Tiff ;)
