This Catches My Eye in Feeds, Writing Tip, Coupon Today, Ending Xmas Sale

Published: Thu, 10/05/17

Today is a long day filled with meetings and activities for my daughter, but I'll be working in between those things - primarily from my car. Do y'all do that? Take something with you so you can work every chance you get? Or do you just chalk it up to, "I can't get anything done today?" If I did that, I'd be broke for sure. LOL!

Proud mom moment too - Shawn's professor emailed him last night impressed by his essay and asked if she could share it with all of her classes as an example of how an essay should be written. I had to laugh because my friend Arun said, "Tell her she has to buy PLR rights to it first." He cracks me up!

But you know what I've always told my kids and is something YOU can learn from, too? From the time they began writing essays or long answers, I told them this: "Teachers get bored. Kids write the same boring stuff and they need to read something interesting. So if they ask you to write about something you own that means a lot to you, don't just write about a baseball card you got - tell them why it's emotional for you. Tug at their heartstrings, add personality and storytelling".

And that's just what they've always done. Shawn's essay was supposed to be about a group he joined in life. He added all sorts of personalization about how he had prejudged certain people and got to know them in the group, how he was isolated in earlier years but found he could easily fit into any group if he just tried, etc. So that teacher probably saw in that essay something most essays lack - emotion. This is the same with your readers.

They get bored reading about "anti aging facts." Tell them about the embarrassment you felt knowing you were walking into the class reunion with age spots on your hands and wondering if anyone else had them or if you could cover them up with foundation. Tell them how you teared up looking in the mirror and realizing time was taking its toll on you. Give emotions they can relate to. It creates a stickiness to your content that keeps people reading and interested.

Okay - I have a few things to share with you today:

#2 - Google Profits for Marketers - Great Research Tips

I spent this morning reading through Barb Ling and Dennis Becker's Google Profits for Marketers. I loved the research tips for using Google. I'm a great researcher already but I learned some things that were VERY specific and will help me a ton.

One thing I noticed is that many people have a hard time researching. They don't know how to use Google, which sounds odd because you'd think you just type in whatever you want to know. There's SO much more to it than that. Little tricks you can use for searching, that would greatly improve your results and cut down on the work and floundering you go through.

The pair have their new report on sale here at the time of this writing for under $11:
