Roll Up Your Sleeves, Y'all! We're Strategizing 8 Profit Steps Today!
Published: Fri, 09/29/17
Today is a wonderful day! First, it's rainy and cozy (and cool outside). Second, it's Friday. Third (and most important) - I get to go spend the day having a Mother/Daughter day out with MY Mom! I love that - we don't do it near enough. So today we're having Tex Mex at a place called Tia's on the Bluff in downtown Fort Worth and then we plan to stroll the aisles at Trader Joe's (her favorite grocery store). I know, we're wild, right?
Before I get ready, I wanted to send out a strategy session I wrote for you. Enjoy and think of how you can apply it for more profits!
Today we're talking about affiliate sites where you want to sell a variety of items. So not just toys, but toys, sports equipment, beauty products - whatever. How do you approach something like that?
I release my 2017 Gift Guides Bundle yesterday that has 6 guides in it (link at the bottom of this strategy session) - all in different categories, including Smart Gadgets, Electronics, Luxury Beauty, Toys, Video Games, and Sports and Outdoor Gifts. How would you pt a site like that together?
First understand that when you put a site like this together, it has potential to be either evergreen or holiday-based. I would go for evergreen. Instead of a site with Christmas in it, go for a neutral day gift site where people go to buy year round - for birthdays, Father's or Mother's Day, Housewarmings, Baby Showers, Bridal, or any reason, so that you get 365 days a year traffic.
Second, come up with a fitting domain that allows you to promote gifts for everyone - all ages, both genders, all hobbies, all needs, all interests - everything. I did some keyword research for you and I found some neat domains that are available (feel free to go grab them), such as:
- GiftIdeaAssistant.com
- GiftIdeaPlanner.com <--- What I love about this one is you could whip up a free downloadable (opt in offer) with things like what Amy Harrop teaches in her Companion Guides product I reviewed - where they can fill in the blanks like a planner. So it might say, "Gift Ideas For ______" and then have five lines or so where they can write ideas.
- PresentsForAllOccasions.com <--- Many people use the word presents instead of gifts.
- PickAndSendPresents.com
Third, you would install a simple WordPress blog on the domain and then categorize it. You have a couple of options here. You can categorize it by the product section (like my bundles showcase - beauty gifts, sports gifts, etc.) Or, you can categorize it by holidays, "Gifts for Birthdays," "Gifts for Christmas," etc. Or, you can categorize it for the recipient: "Gifts for Mom," "Gifts for Toddlers," etc. Some even categorize it by money: "Gifts Under $25," "Gifts $500+" and so on...
I don't want you to get bogged down with this step because many people do. Don't worry about it - there's no WRONG answer. All you need to know is that each blog post that you create is almost like its OWN site. So I can still have a blog post titled, "Best Gifts for Girls Under 10" or "Best Gifts for Moms Who Loved Baking" or "Best Father's Day Gifts for Golfers," and so on.
Each post on your site has the potential to be organized however you FEEL like organizing it.
Fourth, Create a spreadsheet or document that helps you organize your content. So using the above guidelines, you might figure out a way to track how often you create content for an age group, a gender, a holiday, a specific interest. This way, you're not stuck on posting too many entries about golf or about toddlers - you're creating a variety of posts so that when someone lands there, they see something for everyone.
Fifth, please understand that this is a long-term commitment idea. You will start out creating your site and think, "Man, that feels puny. I have a gift site and only 6 posts so far."
Well guess what? A year from now you might have 349 MORE posts. And it doesn't matter if it's ONE or on thousand posts - EACH post serves as an opportunity for profits. I've made sites before where one single blog post poured in thousands of dollars into my account, while the others barely ever made a sale. Oh well! That ONE blog post was worth the $10 domain and $10 a month hosting.
Post content when you have free time or work it hard - up to you. Give yourself a minimum to achieve, like one post a week. If that's from PLR, fine. If it's unique, fine. Could be a combination of the two.
Sixth, start using your content. It can be original or PLR - doesn't matter. Add images and hyperlinks to your site that link back to the product for sale using your affiliate link. I know this sounds obvious to many of you, but believe it or not, I've had dozens of people have me look their site over and I've discovered they either weren't using links at ALL or not using affiliate links, and they were baffled as to why they weren't making money. Seriously.
So with your profit strategy, I want you to consider doing two things. First, let's take something like the Video Games report in the bundle I showcased. You can break that report up by subsections into six or seven different blog posts. When you read through it, it will discuss various topics like Accessories for example. You should have the following links to Amazon or Walmart or whatever you're promoting:
- A link to the entire video games page. So when you say something like, "If you have someone who is into video games on your list, make sure you consider accessories." You would want to link the word video games to the video game PAGE on Amazon using YOUR affiliate link. (none of these are my affiliate link fyi)
- Then link to the accessories page using your link.
- Don't be afraid to make a list to each brand, such as XBox One Headsets, Playstation 4 Headsets and so on. Use bulletpoints if you want - it's a great, easy way to help your shoppers go directly to where they need to be - and notice I'm linking to the bestseller's list.

Use the lefthand sidebar to help you navigate to the best bestseller's list for your readers. So for headsets, I would click Video Games, then accessories, then the various platforms to get to the headsets for that brand.
Oh! Almost forgot - Amazon sent out notices that from September 1st through October 31st, you will earn an 8% commission on Echo devices, Kindle devices, Fire Tablet devices and Dash buttons. So make sure you link to those to get some increased commission levels.
Seventh, whenever you use readymade content - slant it as a gift. You're going to see PLR being released where the content is written for someone making their own buying decision. Like a blender or golf clubs, etc. It's SO easy to tweak it - all you do is change "you" to "they" so for example, if the content says, "If you're a beginner, then you want to get a simple set of clubs" - change it to, "If they're a beginner, then you want to get them a simple set of clubs."
Eighth, share the blog posts! Every time you hit publish, do the following:
- Share it on Twitter (create an account for gift ideas if you want - match your domain).
- Share it on Google Plus
- Share it on FB (create a group or page for gift ideas or shopping tips).
- Make a Pin out of it. SO easy to do.
When you buy it, it takes you to an upsell screen. On the right side, click Continue to my products. Then it will give you the instructions with a code to enter to deposit the image credits into your account. I bought 200 images this month for $98. (You can buy the pack multiple times). It comes in handy because you'll use them for Pins, blog posts, social networking sites, etc.
I hope you enjoyed the strategy session! Check out my steep discount on the brand new 2017 Gift Guides Bundle of PLR content here - it's the one I'm running for my son Shawn's second semester of college, so it's all for a good cause:
