Heartbreaking truth about video usage, Slime in the industry
Published: Sun, 11/12/17
I slept twelve hours last night - 12!! I'm both happy I got a good night's rest and annoyed because I have a launch Tuesday and now was NOT the time to OD on sleep. But I listened to my body. Now maybe I'll be way more productive. Tomorrow begins my 60-day challenge at my gym. I signed up once before but quit before I ever got going. I'm not expecting to win - I know people who gorge themselves on food the week before so they can win the transformation easily.
Why do people have to cheat? I see this so much with IM. Did you know (I just found out) that there are groups of PLR sellers who specifically send junk traffic to a competitor's sale just so their conversions will look really weak and they won't make the leaderboard?
This is why y'all sometimes see crappy products on leaderboards and fail to see anything good (and by good I mean you took time to read it and it was awful - not good as in, "they hired a graphics guy so it looks legit."). And the blackmail going on behind the scenes - gasp! I just found out there are some people warning good creators that if they go against them, they'll tell everyone never to network with them again. Maybe they'll publish a 101 Ways to Intimidate the Competition Into Letting You Win guide. ;)
So much slime. I am just doing my thing - was oblivious to it all.
Anyway, I'm really excited because this time, I'm fully committed to my efforts, I'm eating well, and I have paid personal training. I'm just competing against my own self to get better and stronger. Be my best.
So I just read the most heartbreaking truth about video usage. It was:
Before you open your mouth, people see a thousand things about you.
It's so true. I hosted a video challenge awhile back where, part of the challenge was for me to personally critique the person's daily videos.
Before the participant even opened their mouth I could tell certain things - if they were comfortable, nervous, had low self esteem, etc. I verified it through our back and forth exchanges and it was my job to help them appear more at ease and confident. In video blogging or marketing, you need to have both.
When I was going through my divorce, I remember some subscribers being shocked because they thought I was fine all along - but some people emailed me saying, "I always thought I SAW fear and anxiety on your face. Something didn't seem right." And they were right - because my marriage was abusive and some videos were made during reallllly rough moments.
I look back on my videos and I see it. I see it in my shoulders, my trembling smile and nervous laugh, my facial tics (one subscriber called me a rabbit because I twitched my nose out of anxiety). So our body language and faces and tones all tell a story REGARDLESS of what our words say.
You have to know how to work around your nerves, your insecurities, your stress and more -and this is whether you're working with video OR audio.
I read that above bold phrase in the Visual Voice course I'm taking. I've fallen in love with these lessons and it ENDS tomorrow, and it's going up from from $17 to $27 and then $97, so don't pay more when you don't have to:

I'm on the body language part right now and it's soooo good. I loved the analysis part of how your body is representing you. Reminded me of a friend who has the biggest house, wealth coming out of her ears - and when I go visit her, she can't sit still and relax and talk. She's the fidgetiest (not a word but oh well) person I know. She will sit for 3 seconds, get up, rush around the room, yell at her kids, nervous laugh, pick at her face, etc. When we started talking, despite the
airs she put on, it turns out she's in a bad marriage with tons of money stress.
So now I know those body signals were representing her stress.
This body language portion of the course is teaching us to see ourselves with an objective eye. And speaking of eye - he talks about eye contact. I can't TELL you how often people can't do this on video and it ruins the video connection with your audience.
Anyway, ask yourself how often I recommend a product this hard and this often - rarely. That's because the value on this one is through the roof and I know it's going to benefit so many of you in what I personally feel is most important - that personal connection - the one that allows my small, yet tight knit list to convert at 60% or so. It's all about connections.
I love that the course has exercises to try. It's not just information, but "Okay, so try this now..." so you take action more readily.
Oh by the way - I wanted so bad to make a review video of Kurt Chrislar's Azon link checker. It goes through your site and checks all your links to make sure none of them go an "out of stock" link. For some reason, my theme is causing an issue so I can't do it, but it's here if you want to check it out. It can email you daily, weekly or monthly or you can log in on your own and check links periodically. I have to figure out why my old theme is glitching on me.
Grr.
