Joining Affiliate Programs: Lesson for Newbies + FYIs
Published: Wed, 05/16/18
I’m working a little bit this morning before heading out to my daughter’s awards ceremony. Love those moments and seeing the reminders on my Facebook about what awards she got in pervious years.
I had a great question come in from a subscriber who wanted to know what newbies should know about joining affiliate programs or being new to affiliate marketing, so I wanted to share some thoughts on that.
1. Most affiliate programs or vendors want to see that you have an established presence online.
They don’t want to put their reputation at risk allowing just anyone to promote because you can ruin their reputation and tank their conversions if you’re not above board.
So what I suggest you do is start a blog in the niche (buy some PLR content to beef it up on the cheap) and backdate the blog posts.
How do you do that? Watch here:

2. See what your reputation is like online.
There are some people who have a good reputation and some who are known for being scammers. Now no one expects perfection because everyone can have a hater or two.
But just check your name out online and see what people find about it. Make sure you have an About page on your blog to show the person determining your approval what kind of person you are.
Look in Google, but also on Facebook to see what conversations people are having about you. Look in forums that you belong to (or even those you don’t) to see if anyone’s mentioning you. And see what you yourself have posted that might raise eyebrows.
3. Prove that you’re knowledgeable.
If I have a product in the survival niche and some random newbie marketer comes along wanting to promote that, dog training, beauty products and anything else he might get approved for, it doesn’t evoke the same kind of confidence that it would if a “survival blogger” expert came to me wanting to promote my product.
Make some videos and share them on your blog showing that you know the topic. Embed the videos in the blog posts.
4. Don’t beg.
Oh this looks bad when people do it. They flat out say, “I’m a newbie” and beg to be approved. Don’t do this. It doesn’t make people feel sorry for you – it makes them nervous about approving you.
You need to exude confidence that you know the marketing game and how to succeed in it. At the same time, don’t lie. Just be honest about where your blog is located, invite questions or communications back and if they ask, tell them how you plan to promote.
5. Don't request more than 1 at a time.
I have some people go on JVZoo and request every one of my products. That irks me. Don't ever do that. It's much better to look like you have a laser focus and really have a plan to promote something specific than to just request anything and everything and see if anything takes.
If you need some PLR to beef up a blog for affiliate sales, head to my PLR Mini Mart and use the coupon code BEEF50 - and that'll take 50% off your entire cart for the next 5 days.
Reminder: The Self Improvement and Personal Growth 300+ bundle from JR Lang sale ends in 4 days and so will my exclusive PLR and OTO bonuses. You can get that here:

FYI: David Perdew and his team decided to change the options on the Rapid Growth Plans. Now, you can pick 1 for $7 or grab 3, 6 or all 12 for $17, $27, and $47 respectively.
These are great tutorials and workbooks - not just for newbies, but for everyone. The topics are things like blog traffic, autoresponders, coaching, ecourse profits, hot niches and social networking to name a few.
