Good Emails Can Inspire You Overboard and Smart Content Strategy
Published: Sat, 05/19/18
I'm so happy it's the weekend! I've been working my way up with walking briskly to be able to handle Disney in just over 2 months and oh boy - do I have my work cut out for me. As of yesterday I was only able to fast walk for 7 minutes. That won't do at all. But I'm leveling up every day and still operating at about 80% from the hospital visit. Hoping now that summer's almost here (one more week of half days) and I can get plenty of rest and soak up the sun and recover nicely.
So the day before yesterday I emailed you about building the right type of business that sustains you and I mentioned Arun Chandran's inspiring (butt kicking) email, too. Some of you were so motivated by both of our emails that you made drastic kneejerk decisions, and I want to caution you to slow down.
I read of people saying they felt they got permission to "let their dream go" and "give up." That wasn't the message either of us were trying to make, I don't think. In fact, Arun was adamant about pursuing your dreams.
Throwing all your hard work away to give up is as bad as buying products you don't need just because someone said it's a hot niche. Both aren't rooted in wise decision making. You need to start being strategic with your business. That means take some time - a night, a whole day - a week - whatever - and take stock of what you know, what tools you've accumulated, what courses you own to help you, and what talents you have.
Then PLAN. Nobody takes time to plan anymore. They just grab stuff randomly, take a whack at it, and move on. There's no rhyme or reason to their efforts. They're ALL over the place. Calm down and operate from a place of business acumen.
You don't have to walk away from an online dream - you just have to work the process like a business team would. Don't get into a niche just because someone says it's profitable. Does it INTEREST you? If not, nooooo! Stay away from it. The whole point is to be able to wake up each day and ENJOY your career. So just because a bundle of PLR comes out on the topic of Gout, don't buy it unless Gout is your thing. You have gout, you have a passion to cure gout - gout is on your mind 24/7.
Otherwise, the Internet is wide open with possibilities to tap into ANY niche - name it - beer making, pet ownership, parenting, dating, organization and cleaning, kayaking, whatever! There has to be SOMEthing you love in life. If so, there's probably a way to monetize that online. Or even have a hybrid of online and offline business efforts.
When you read butt kicking emails about getting yourself straight with your business, it's not permission to be a quitter. It's an instruction to get smart and go after things that make you happy in life so that you ARE more driven and motivated to succeed with your niche day after day.
Use the Internet as a TOOL for you to succeed with your topic. The Internet doesn't determine your success. It's just something you use. Don't be afraid of it. Don't be afraid of any course or strategy or tool. Just play around with it. Some things will be super easy to learn and some will make you pull your hair out. That's okay. Try again the next day and if you can't master it, save up to outsource or find a workaround. But don't throw your hands up in the air and give up on your dreams.
Okay on another topic, I spent Friday night going through Harold Burch's Content Curation Phenom course. It's a short video course where he shares how he finds content, what he does with it and how he monetizes it. Videos 3, 4 and 5 were my favorites.
Content Curation is when you find other peoples' content and share a snippet, link back to them, and give your $0.02 about the topic or their opinion. It's a great way to generate traffic when you don't have anything to say that day.

FYI his first videos on the download page I personally didn't need - they're about whitelisting and organization of the content. You may want to go through those. I felt like it picked up speed in the meat of the video course where he's actually showing you the step-by-steps. And no, I don't know how valuable his OTOs are, sorry. I only went through the front end training and it's under 10 bucks, so it was worth it for the little tips I picked up.
I have some neat info on curating content that you might also want to check out - the first one from my old blog:

And also, there's a book on Amazon I bought a long time ago called Curation Nation by Steven Rosenbaum that was really good.
The reason I wanted to share this strategy is because curating content is perfect for people who don't have the money for content (or maybe the time). It allows you to take content snippets that are already out there from established people in your niche and create discussions and engagement for them on YOUR blog or social networking accounts.
Just remember - snippet and quotes, not cut and paste an entire article. That's theft.
Tiff ;)
