Wow - Clarification! Lesson: You Never Know Where Money's Lurking

Published: Sun, 05/27/18

Real quick - I need to clarify something about my last email because someone took my words wrong so before anyone else has that idea, I want to clear something up. When I was talking about the EU compliance thing making me want to vomit because of everything I've read and seen about it, I did NOT mean anyone ASKING me about it.

That, of course, is normal - for you to be worried. I wondered about it all myself initially. What I was saying was sad was the fear it's inducing and so many "doomsday" emails from marketers trying to scare people into buying plugins and hire lawyers and do all sorts of expensive stuff. There are so many articles posted about it and fear-based emails that it really makes me wonder about the motives involved. That's all.

Okay, let's move on...

You never know where money's lurking in niches. I was reading about a conversation this marketer had with someone who is making up to $1,200 a day selling something most of us wouldn't even think of.

Know what the guy sells?

Toilet tank lids - the ceramic looking cap that goes on top of the toilet tank. They sell for about $60 and this guy sells 10-20 a day.

This reminded me of one of my several toilet SEAT sites I had awhile back. I flipped them. But the sites brought in sales every day - and not just little $14.99 sales, either. Some people pay big money for comfort and technology and materials for their toilet seats.

It was crazy.

Go ahead and take a peek on Amazon - look up toilet seats and scroll down. Even the $50ish seats have about 2-3 thousand reviews. And the sites were so easy to organize. I had them laid out by materials (wood, plastic, polyresin), by shape (round, elongated), by material/finish (wood, plastic, ceramic, etc.), by technology - like self closing lids, or wow - get into the bidet seats and you start going up into the $600-800 level of sales.

You could easily start looking at slants. Think everyone just needs a new seat? Nope. Some need raised seats for elderly individuals. Some need special seats that are warmed up. Some need toilet seats that have night lights that turn on with motion detectors so that spouses don't have to wake each other up by turning on the bathroom light in the middle of the night.

Keyword tools and comment areas are perfect for this - I'd type in stuff like toilet seats that - and see what it gave me. Toilet seats that: automatically close, don't get cold, weigh you, and so on. People want special seats for when they're overweight, or have had a hip replacement, etc.

And blogging about them was SUPER easy. You basically slant the post (like top 5 toilet seats for the elderly) and then go over a short paragraph for each one, discussing what consumers like about it, the materials, how it's helpful for their issue and so on.

Competition is crazy easy to beat in niches like this because most people aren't thinking about toilet seats (or toilet tank tops). They're thinking too broad, like "home decor" or whatever.

Think about your own life this week and see what kinds of things you buy repeatedly. Or what items do you rarely have to rebuy but everyone might at some point? A blender isn't something we buy daily, but the other day mine started leaking, so I ordered a new one on Amazon in an instant. Oh, I also Googled best blender for shakes because I wanted to see what people said.

I ended up on some blenderauthority.com site (by the way, LOVE the "authority" keyword - you could do that for ANY niche domain) and I clicked through on her link. I didn't end up buying what she recommended, but I'm sure she got the commission anyway because I ended up buying something else.

Okay hope this insight helped. Sometimes it can be something super simple and it doesn't take a lot of effort or confusing ideas to start profiting.

I might do a challenge with y'all on this. Sounds fun.

Tiff ;)
