A Different Kind of Giveaway (1st for me)
Published: Tue, 01/12/10
From time to time I'll get invited to join a giveaway. At first, I
didn't really understand how they worked, but I didn't join anyway
because the products and people were the same ones I'd seen doing
this over and over again, and I didn't want to join that group.
Then I got notified about a new 2010 giveaway that was kind of
different - and I liked it! But to tell YOU about it, I wanted to
do it MY way (I don't use form promo emails lol). I wanted to teach
you something while we talk about it, so I'm going to show you a
behind-the-scenes look at how a giveaway works AND then tell you
about its benefits from my own perspective.
If you already know how they work and just want to go see it, visit
here:

Okay first of all - a Giveaway Event is when one or more people
host a site where a number of other marketers all promote a free
item to give to all of the people who stop by. In the case of the
Giveaway 2010, there are 50 of us I believe.
Most of the time, it's kind of a buddy system, no one cares what's
given away, and truth be told, there aren't a lot of ethics
involved - no thought for the customer, just plain greed for
building a list.
That's why I always avoided these things before.
This one had a very important person to me - Craig Desorcy.
You know Craig - he's my mentor - the guy who has single handedly
helped me increase my Internet marketing earnings each year.
Then I watched Kevin Riley's (one of the hosts) video for JV partners
and read the instructions and some things stood out to me:
1.) They weren't the same old names. It was a fresh mix of blood
and they did this on purpose.
2.) They charged $100 to be a part of it as a JV partner. Others
were free, and I firmly believe when you PAY for something, you
take more care in how it turns out.
3.) They flat out told you that just because you paid $100, it
didn't mean you couldn't get booted - for spamming people or for
submitting shoddy products (James and Kevin told us up front they
would be inspecting these products). I like this for two reasons -
1st, I don't want to be associated with spam and crap and 2nd, I
never send my subscribers to shoddy products, so even a free
giveaway could tarnish my reputation if I wasn't careful.
With that in mind, I signed up and paid my $100 to give not ONE,
but TWO products away - "Get Up and Running Online" (not the PLR
version, the personal version) and "How to Write Reviews for
Affiliate Cash."
Now total, I sell those two products for $59 - but from today until
January 26th, I'm giving them away FREE to people who visit the
site and download them from me. These are two very popular guides
for me sales-wise, so why would I give them away?
Because it helps me build exposure and branding. There are tons of
people who are going to visit this page and they may not have ever
heard of Tiffany Dow - so this gets my name out there. If they like
THESE two products, well then they'll see other things I promote in
them from Tiffanydow.com and they might turn into repeat customers.
If you want to see how it works from the inside, you can watch this
video I made - about 7 minutes long:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7OzAB9Ghwc
That shows you how the Giveaways work from a participant's point of
view. Now let's talk about the benefits you, as a subscriber get
from visiting a giveaway - specifically the Giveaway 2010 Event:
1.) You get a lot of products people PAY for - for FREE. That's a
big perk in itself. Now do some people post freebies they normally
give away in these giveaways? Sure, some do - but that doesn't mean
they're not valuable, though.
2.) You can find niche specific and broad marketing insight in
these giveaways. In the video, you might notice I mention one of
the products is about the dating niche - this is perfect if that's
something you've considered getting into or are already working on.
Much of the giveaway item stash is just about bettering your
marketing, though.
3.) You get to weed out good and bad marketers without having to
pay to find out if they're worthy of your money. Let's say you
visit the page and see Tiffany Dow and you haven't ever bought
anything of mine, but you had considered it. You weren't sure if it
would be crap, though. This is a GREAT way to find out what the
quality of my content is. Do I deliver what I promise? Do I write
well? NOW would it be worth investing your money for that other
products I offer?
Anyway, spend a few minutes going down the page to see if anything
pops out at you as worth downloading. I'll be somewhere on that
page, so if you haven't yet bought Get Up and Running Online or How
to Write Reviews for Affiliate Cash, you can grab MY offer, too!

Have a great week!
