Are You Listening to Your Gut?

Published: Wed, 09/29/10

Hi !

I have a loud gut. No, not because of bad indigestion. I have a gut
that won't let me ignore it if it's telling me something's wrong.

Does yours do that?

Some people I know, are able to tune it out and ignore it - but if
I try to do that it gnaws at me until I either break down in tears
or lash out somewhere along the line.

Yesterday my gut spoke up and told me to back out of a project I
had already committed to. Now that's not something I do lightly. It
was something really quick - a little video advice for another
marketer's product, but good old gut said, "Hmm - something's off
kilter, Tiff."

That's all it takes for me. I don't need my gut to have valid
reasons or argue its case. If I feel it - even for an instance, I
immediately rectify it so I have peace of mind.

And there's nothing wrong with that. I didn't even try to explain
myself. I just was honest and said, "My gut tells me to bow out"
and the other person said, "I can respect that."

Whether that's true or not, I have no idea but that's not my
problem. I have to protect my reputation, my brand, and my sanity.

So I went to bed feeling great and woke up great. If I hadn't
listened to my gut, I would have waited and worried.

It doesn't matter if it's going to inconvenience someone much
"bigger" than you are, or something you feel you just SHOULD be
doing - don't do it if it makes you feel bad in any way.

Not sure if any of you watch If I Can Dream on Hulu.com but there's
this guy Ben Elliott - a great person - really salt of the Earth.
And he's trying to become an actor in LA. He got offered a part
that he didn't feel comfortable with, and even though people
pressured him, he turned it down. The female actress in the house -
Kara did the same thing with a part she was offered.

Both stuck to their guns and didn't worry about what the producers
of the show (Simon Cowell) had to say. They protected their future
brand because they're striving for excellence. I admire that!

Anyway - go have a great Wednesday! I'm cleaning house and working.
Ick! But it'll make my night of Tivo THAT much more satisfying
tonight :)
