Compassion Out the Window, Content Toolbox, Topics and More!
Published: Sat, 03/14/20
Well both my kids' schools closed until the end of the month, at minimum. I'm grateful. I tend to be a worrywart and worst-case-scenario-ist so I like every precaution taken just in case.
How are you holding up? I know some of you might be worried and not have anyone to reach out to, so I'm here for you if you need to email me and chat. We're all in this together.
Here's what I have for you today:
Compassion Out the Window
It's very disappointing to hear about so many marketers smelling "blood in the water" and using this virus as a way to take advantage of people. Some do alarmist email headings that are so gross. Just to get you to open the email.Others are using the health alarm to send spammy offers urging people to cash in quickly.
There's a right way and a wrong way to step up during a global crisis. I hope you stay aware both as a marketing consumer AND as a marketing leader of the potential for abuse.
First of all, be aware that some marketers have zero concern for your true well-being. They'll push anything and everything in normal times, but they also know how to twist your emotional concern into something that only benefits them.
Ask yourself if what they're touting is good for your business. Take away all of the hype in their email and the offer and strip it down to the facts. Analyze it that way. I see some marketers bragging about "taking advantage of stupid consumers" and it's really irritating to me. As if people deserved it. Don't become prey.
Second, as a marketer, understand that people are going through scary times right now. While YOU may not be scared, many are. And many are vulnerable. Now is not the time to make a quick buck. If you have something that can truly help people, then certainly step up and provide that to the marketplace.
But don't promote or create any outlandish untrue products (I've seen several famous people getting in trouble for trying to serve up some snake oil products during this crisis - so disgusting). Think of how you can create things that truly help people in this time.
For example, many people are going to get laid off from work temporarily and need to earn an income. Teaching them how start a business online is a wonderful thing. Creating content people can use for their online business is great - including topics people are currently searching for. I'm a consumer and I'm searching online for things about health, prepping, etc. I love to encounter solid information. Provide a service that helps people just starting out online get a foothold.
Don't do like some hand sanitizer sellers and jack your prices up to an outrageous amount. Be ethical about it. Society needs to lift each other up during tough times, not prey on one another.
Watch how marketers are emailing you and selling to you during this time. Many of you have sent me copies of emails that made me want to vomit from other people. This should be a great indicator of who is trustworthy and who you should follow.
Also, Aweber put out some GREAT advice for email marketers on what to do and not to do during this situation. It's a good read:

Topics
I'm getting a lot of requests for the specific COVID-19 topic. I don't feel comfortable doing a PLR pack on that, I'm sorry. There's far too much evolving information and unknowns for me to do that request. What I do feel comfortable doing are evergreen topics that may be helpful to people regarding this time of isolation and health concern.
So for example, I can do homesteading and prepping (relevant because we see stores being sold out).
I am also doing an upcoming pack on Boosting Your Immune System, which is a relevant evergreen topic not just for anti aging but for parents, and men and women of all ages. It happens to tie in nicely with the topic at hand.
I hope you understand. I'm sure someone will capitalize on the actual virus topic soon. But I would be careful about what they include in the content before pushing it out to an audience online. You don't want to be presenting false information and ruining your reputation and brand just to get eyeballs on your site.

Also, three things are showing big interest by consumers right now:

I created two big discounted bundles - one for the Work at Home niche and one for the Prepper niche. They have tons of content to beef up a site.
Okay that's it for me today - have a great rest of your day! Stay strong. This is temporary.
