FREE 7 Days to Transform Your Leadership Skills, Why Action Is the Antidote to Despair

Published: Thu, 07/23/20

I had my 4 week weigh in this week. My kids aren't letting me weigh in daily anymore. LOL! I tend to over analyze it and quit. They're doing a great job keeping me on track but truth be told, after all this time thinking I had hit rock bottom, it's only now that I realize I JUST hit rock bottom about a month ago.

It was eye opening and scary to feel so hopeless about my weight, and suddenly, I was committed without excuse. THEN I knew what rock bottom meant. And my son Dylan had KEPT telling me previously he didn't think I'd reached it and I was frustrated, saying, "Well I don't know how it could get much worse!" Now I know. Glad I'm on the right track now.

Okay - if you're in my Createful Journals review implementation, I'll be posting lesson 48 later today. (If you still want to join, make sure you use coupon code: TIFFSAVES30 at checkout).

Why Action Is the Antidote to Despair

Have you ever felt like your life was going nowhere? Like you wanted to sink into your bed and never have to get up to face the world again? Well let me tell you, you’re not alone. This kind of despair is extremely common, and some would even argue it’s being seen more and more among young and old alike.

This kind of deep depression can set in at any time in life. Maybe you’ve lost your job, fallen out of love, had a major argument with your family or friends, or maybe you’ve tried over and over to make your life better, but you just seem to be getting overwhelmed.

There’s a remedy for this, and that’s what we’re going to talk about today.

It's called considerate action.

When you're down in the dumps in despair, it's important to recognize a number of things. If you've been overworking yourself and feel hopeless at the thought of having to continue the same way, it’s time to take a break. You’re going to need to arrange a few days, or a week to yourself, so that you can take some time out and come back fighting fit. Usually a short vacation or staycation, or some quality time with your family will fix you right up.

This is the kind of action that's more along the lines of giving yourself the chance to relax. Yes, it’s the action of doing nothing, and believe me when I say it really helps. Just make sure that you put down your work, or whatever you've been doing that has caused you to get so burned out, and after a few days you’ll feel ready to get back out there and take on the world.

If the despair that you feel is more along the lines of constantly failing at the things you try to do, then you need to take a different approach. Really consider the things you want to achieve and figure out the small steps you can take to get to where you want to be.

At times like this, it’s no use jumping in at the deep end. You need to take things slowly and recognize the little progresses that you make along the way. Stopping to take note of your small achievements can give you that boost of morale you need to keep on top of things.

When you feel hopeless, the most important thing to do is take the kind of action that brings with it the antidote to the specific kind of despair you are feeling. With a little concentrated effort, you can overcome it.

This might be a good time to read a self help book or speak with a counselor, or even a good friend. Sometimes getting a little perspective from others can help you to see things you’ve missed. A different point of view will help you develop a clear plan of action to so you can overcome despair and achieve the things you want to achieve.

Often, the despair you feel is related to something in your life that isn’t going the way you want it to. So it’s time to sit down and really consider exactly what it is that’s getting you down. Then, either let that thing go from your life, or figure out how you can act to make things change. That’s the most important key to all of this – CHANGE.

To overcome despair, something in your life needs to change. In addition, in order for change to occur, you need to act differently. Just figure out the specifics of what needs to change and how you need to act differently, and you'll be on track to conquering despair and liberating yourself from its grasp.

Okay that's it for me today - have a great rest of your day!
