Breakthrough! Plus My NEW Summer Fitness PLR - BIG Sale

Published: Fri, 05/10/19

I didn't bawl at the banquet last night, but I came close. Scarlett got voted most likely to become a comedian and her advice to the upcoming 8th graders was to "hang around people who make you happy." Such sage advice. A parent came up to me and said they loved his strong she was - that she was never involved in drama and that she admires how level headed she is. Wow! That was nice.

Today it's extremely overcast and I want to nap so bad, but I'm not. Instead, I'm working. Here's what I have for you today:

#2 - Breakthrough!

Yesterday I was flailing around trying to find a way to develop a system for my fiction business branch. I couldn't figure out how to design one. I know what to do after have a story idea, but I couldn't come up with the initial process for the genre I wanted to write.

One of my friends basically said, "Sometimes no system IS a system. Try tapping into your creativity by not being chained down to a plot or outline."

So I did it.

I sat down at my computer and all I knew was how this vampire clan (okay, yes I'm a dorky Twilight fan) recruited new vampires. And I started writing.

I finished over 1k words quickly and handed it to Scarlett, who loved it. My kids are honest. If they don't like my writing, they'll say, "Well, it's not something I'd read, but..." Only this time she said, "I'd read that!"

So what I discovered is that something I NEVER thought I could do - what's known as pantsing (writing by the seat of your pants) was fun and exciting to me. I have no idea where the story is going, really. And that keeps boredom at bay.

I had been really scared of trying this method - felt too "off the rails," but I was listening to Brendon Urie yesterday (lead singer of Panic! At the Disco) and someone asked him what to do is you're nervous about something and he said, "Just show up and start." Made sense. Just like the do it afraid mantra I tell other people, only I'd never applied it to this part of my life.

Also, I found out I love not having a plan for my weight loss. No strict counting. No strict goals. In that Atomic Habits book, I'm reading that there are three layers of change:

1. Our outcomes (what we want to have happen - write a book, lose 100 pounds)
2. Our processes (do it by fasting, by plotting, etc.)
3. Our IDENTITY.

This is what was missing - the identity. I can develop outcomes and processes all day long. But I was always a fat person ON a diet UNTIl I lost weight. Or a MARKETER trying to add a bit of fiction to my schedule.

Why had I not seen this before? In my marketing world, I BECAME a marketer because I stated one day that's what i was and started living like it. I had to fully abandon the identity of a ghostwriter.

As someone who wants to be thinner, I have to adopt the identity of a healthier person - not just be someone trying to GET to that identity.

As someone who wants to be an author, I have to adopt the identity of a writer - and all that that encompasses.

Very good book. I'm engrossed in it.

Okay that's it for me today. I'm off to be a writer ;)
