Am I the Kind of Person Who...

I've been talking about a different way to achieve your goals lately - instead of simply setting a specific goal and doing whatever you can to achieve it, focusing on changing your identity to become the kind of person who would naturally reach that goal.
That requires a change of habits, getting out of your comfort zone, and a big alteration of your mindset.
But I'm not some kumbaya type who sits around chanting affirmations to get a mindset shift. It's just not me.
So what I've started doing is asking myself one question as I go about my business:
"Am I the kind of person who...?"
It requires you to picture what you want your end result to be.
Here's a ridiculous, but true example of what happened yesterday:
Normally when we go grocery shopping, I rely on my kids a lot. By the time I've walked through a super Walmart, my knee's killing me, my energy (from being too fat) is drained, and they have to return the cart, unload the groceries, etc.
So yesterday we left to go shopping - and keeping in mind that I want an entire physical energy shift where I have energy to write, work on my business AND exercise, I kept that question in mind from the second we left.
As we arrived at Walmart, I realized I usually waste a good 10-15 minutes driving around looking for a closer spot, blaming my knee, of course.
So I said, "Am I the kind of person who can park in the first available spot and walk a bit longer?"
Yes. Yes, that's the kind of person I am NOW. So I did it. I also didn't die.
I realized loading the groceries into the car, Scarlett usually does most of it. I asked myself the question again, and I had her stand there holding one item while I put it all in the car. I also didn't let her return the cart as she usually does. I walked it down the hill and walked back up myself.
When we got home, I grabbed the heaviest groceries - the watermelon, the cat litter, the milk, etc. She was pleasantly surprised. I made multiple trips to the car, instead of coming inside and plopping down from exhaustion as she finished it all. I unloaded and put everything up in the kitchen.
Then last night I did it again. Was I the kind of person to leave a messy kitchen until the next day? Nope. Got up and did a load of dishes. Was I the kind of person to skip reading my motivational book because I'm too tired? No. Read a chapter.
It works great for procrastination and it might seem really silly to some.
But for some, it won't be silly. It'll be what works for you. It all ties into that saying "Live life as if what you want to happen has already happened. That will bring it to fruition." Or something like that.
I'm living life as an active person. As a productive person. As a person who's not too exhausted to tidy up before bed so she can wake up to a clean house instead of burden herself with it the next day. As a person who will open up that fiction file and write before she checks in on news sites and social media.
What kind of person are you?
Tiff :)
