Really Neat Watching Others Work on the Fly (Plus Last Trip Report)
Published: Tue, 07/23/19
Well yesterday I felt so guilty eating in front my dog that I went and got food and ate in my car JUST so she wouldn't see me. LOL! She knew when I got home, though - she smelled the tacos. So I wasn't fooling anyone.
Really Neat Watching Others Work on the Fly
Okay so here's something I'm not sure many of you do, but you should be. Just watching things unfold.I emphasize networking with friends in IM all the time and sometimes, those friendships mean you get to see what someone else is doing and their results unfold right in front of you. I was watching my friend Arun Chandran start mentioning FaceBook groups and I saw him launch one, slant it for a certain type of marketer, generate a buzz and excitement and then start profiting from it - all in the span of like a week or two.
I'm watching everything - from the types of graphics he uses in posts to the messages created and how people react.
Many people do FB groups so wrong. I've done them both right and wrong. And they're an amazing FREE resource for you. People like it because they don't have to be put on a list. They JOIN a group instead. They get to interact with other members and participate. It's not a one sided formula.
It's definitely worth learning more about - and when you join a group,, study how people are managing and running it and what they're posting. Lynn Terry is another person who runs an amazing (and probably very profitable) group in the keto niche.

Last Trip Report: Day 7: Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th
This was our last full day in NYC and my ex husband, his fiancé and his mom came to meet us so he could see the kids (he lives in Maine – we’re in Texas). So they met us at our hotel and we Lyft’d to Katz Deli. We had a grumpy funny waiter. I got the turkey sandwich (yum). Kids got grilled cheese and Philly cheesesteak (the waiter told him not to order it but he did and he liked it). They have GREAT fries. Why do all the NYC places only have Pepsi!? I need Coke! Well, need is a strong word. I NEED to diet. But I want Coke – and almost everyone there has Pepsi. The others in our party had breakfast (waiter scolded them for going to a famous deli and having eggs lol) and another turkey sandwich.
After leaving there were went to Chinatown. I was mostly disappointed with this. I thought it was going to be like what I later saw in Little Italy. But Canal Street was a HUGE, busy street and the same cookie cutter NY Souvenir shops everywhere.
Every step you took someone was asking you to buy a purse or sunglasses. It’s like Times Square and the pushy “hop on hop off bus tour” people shoving a flyer at you every step. Annoying. We got a few things and went to two places I’d wanted to try:
First, Kakigori Bonsai which was delicious! These are like gorgeous snow cones – only unique. We got a strawberry one and a coconut one and they were refreshing and yummy. And beautiful. A small is PLENTY. They’re huge.
Next we went to the Magic Jewelry Shop which I’d heard does auras, which I don’t believe in as far as all the prediction stuff goes. BUT she got all three of us exactly right. LOL! It was fun. And I bought a beautiful rose crystal just because I liked the look of it. She said it heals me from a painful past. Whatever. I like it. If it heals, more power to it!
We stopped off at Starbucks for hydration and then walked to Little Italy, which I loved much more. THIS is what I expected. Not pushy, but beautiful little shops and restaurants and they seemed unique from one another. We stopped to have appetizers, beer (for the others) and sodas and desserts and to rest in the heat for a bit.
Then back to Times Square – fought the crowds and went to the M&M store and then to Juniors for dinner. It was a 20 minute wait, but the food was good. We all had chicken (I had BBQ and the kids had a breast w/no gravy). We got red velvet cheesecake and red velvet layer cake to go for later).
And then we Lyft’d back to the Knickerbocker. As we start to enter Times Square, we start talking about how bright it is and wouldn’t it be weird if they had a blackout and the city went dark? Well BOOM! The city goes dark.
It was all over breaking news on Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc. We were shocked! And it ended on 42nd street RIGHT across the street from our hotel! I swear we didn’t do it! LOL. I was so worried our Lyft driver might find it suspicious and report us. Ha ha!
One of my FAVORITE parts of my trip happened next. As we said our goodbyes to the kids’ dad, I remarked how it sucked that I never got to meet the NYPD or FDNY and tell them how much I admire and love them. I have a great affinity for our military and first responders – even more so with the NY departments because of watching their heroics on 9/11.
So because of the blackout, the NYPD was everywhere – including a car right outside our hotel. My ex walks up, talks to them and waves me over. He asked them to take a picture with me and I just gushed all over the place about how much we love them. You could see it in their faces that they were SO happy to have someone so appreciative of them. They said they love Texas, too. They took pics with me and I beamed like I’d just met the biggest celebrities in the world. It was great.
We went up to our room where we could look out of our window and see half a city in blackout and half lit. We were happy we escaped it on our side, but it was also neat to have it happen while we were there and see how the city and people respond (like Broadway actors taking the show outside and singing in the streets – how cool is that?). That’s the NY grit I admire.
As our Lyft driver took us back to JFK the following day, we asked him to go across the bridge since our first driver brought us in by the tunnel. We got to see the skyline and say goodbye. It was bittersweet. NYC has its blemishes – the smell, a few crazies, etc. But don’t we all?
It was good to get back home. But we enjoyed it and I have a new perspective of what being a New Yorker is all about now. I admire their go getter mindset and nothing-can-stop-us attitude.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! I hope you all make a trip there someday. Here are some pics of the last 2 days of our trip:
In this one, you can see the bonsai kakigori treats - I wish I had these here. Also, the Katz Deli sandwich (and OMG the night before we ate there they had a contest for who could recreate the "I'll have what she's having" scene from When Harry Met Sally. SO glad we didn't happen to stumble upon that! LOL. Also, this orange treat was Shawn's orange gelato in Little Italy. In a frozen orange. LOL Yum!

In this pic, you see a pic of my son, me, my ex's fiance, my ex, my daughter and my ex mother in law. Also my "aura" picture, the cheesecake at Juniors, and Shawn getting his aura done. As for auras, she told me I'm ushering out a painful past (yes, my divorce/marriage, my fallout with my mom, etc.) and healing nicely. She said I'm in a big planning phase of my life and focusing on productivity. Isn't that odd!? I am!

In this pic, you see me taking a picture with two AMAZING NYPD officers. The female is in the K9 unit and the male officer was in a car. I also wrote a letter to the precinct to thank them. Below that is my Juniors BBQ chicken meal, a pic of me and the kids outside the Knickerbocker as we were leaving, and a snapshot of the TV breaking news of the Manhattan Blackout of 2019.

Where are we going next? Well in 87 days me and baby girl are going to Disney World for a short (long weekend) mother-daughter trip. Then my kids all want to show me Washington DC. They’ve been and they want to go back without the school, so that’s what I’m planning next. Maybe in the summer – we’ll see.
Tiff ;)
